To mark this year's Remembrance, seven art scholarship applicants attended Tomorrow to Be Brave, a special service and exhibition at Bath Abbey. This moving event honoured twelve courageous women whose wartime contributions left a lasting legacy. Families of these heroes shared personal stories, and the Military Wives Choir performed, creating a touching tribute as the Abbey doors opened for the public to join in remembrance.

After the service, students visited the 44AD Artspace, where their work was displayed alongside pieces from twelve local schools and youth groups. Each piece celebrated the bravery and selflessness of these remarkable women, and visitors were clearly moved by how each artwork captured the spirit and sacrifices of these wartime heroes.

Our students focused their artwork on Her Honour Ena Collymore-Woodstock, a pioneering Jamaican woman who volunteered during World War II, serving as a radio operator in an anti-aircraft unit. After the war, she studied law in England and returned to Jamaica as the first woman to practice as a barrister. She later became a respected judge and Girl Guides leader, championing literacy programs and summer camps for children in need.

Inspired by her legacy, the scholarship applicants created beautiful tonal pencil drawings capturing her strength, while our Year 5 and 6 Art Club painted Jamaican landscapes to honour her heritage. This experience at Bath Abbey was a powerful reminder of the courage and dedication of Collymore-Woodstock and her peers. We are proud of our young artists, whose work serves as a tribute to her remarkable legacy and a reminder of the enduring impact of courage and compassion.
