Year 9 to 13 Boarding
Boarding Life
Day and boarding pupils move up to one of our Senior Houses in Year 9, and stay with that house through their GCSEs and A-levels. Our Senior Houses are the hub of school life, and each boarding house has a common room where pupils meet for house meetings, movie nights, and relaxing with their friends. Kitchens in each house provide another place to meet with friends, cook, bake and to make a snack, although meals are taken in the main Dining room.
Bedroom provision differs slightly by house, but are a mix of quad, triple, double and single rooms. Some are en-suite, and all have space for decoration. Older pupils have desk space in their room for prep (homework), while our Year 9s and 10 have supervised prep in the main areas of the House.
The vast majority of Kingswood boarders are full boarders, with a small number of weekly boarders. This means boarding houses are busy and buzzing during the weekend, with plenty of activities and company for pupils.
We also have a number of pupils who flexi-board, staying at school up to 3 nights a week. For many pupils this is an excellent stepping stone on to boarding in later years, a chance to develop some independence and a great help with family logistics or to enable pupils to join evening activities or in some cases benefit from supper and supervised prep at school before returning home. Casual boarding, where pupils board occasionally is also available.
Our Boarders Day
Our boarders have a busy day: an example of this is below. To see more of what our boarders get up to, check out our Head of Boarding, Darrell Harding's Instagram page here.
