Prep Admissions Process

Entrance to Kingswood Prep School

The main entry points for Kingswood Prep school are Nursery, Reception, and Year 3, when the number of classes increases to three. However, applications can be considered to other years groups at any time, where space is available. The exception is Year 6, where applications are generally only considered at the start of the school year.

Offers will be made to those pupils who are most suited to the style of education that Kingswood provides, which supports academic success while nurturing wider skills and interests. The final decision will sit with the Prep School Headmaster.

The Headmaster’s judgement will be based on a number of factors, including, where applicable, entrance assessment papers, school reports and personal interviews. No child will be disadvantaged in any of the admissions procedures based on disability, religion or ethnicity. All admissions are made in accordance with the School Admissions Policy, which can be downloaded below.

Sibling Policy

Kingswood Prep School is very much a family-orientated school, and wherever possible, the Headmaster will seek to offer places to siblings as a priority, provided that he believes that Kingswood Prep School is the right school for each individual child and that each candidate has met the entrance requirements.

Late Applications

We maintain a waiting list for late applications, which will be considered if places become available.

Entrance Assessments

If you wish your child to be considered for entry to the Prep School, you will first need to complete a registration form and pay the non-refundable registration fee. We ask for assessment papers to be completed for entry into Years 3–6. These papers are usually taken at Kingswood Prep School, but can also be taken at the candidate's current school, provided that the school is based in the UK and that the School agrees.

For overseas pupils, Kingswood Prep School can send papers for administering at the child's current school, or they can be sat under the supervision of a registered Kingswood agency or at the offices of the British Council. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Kingswood Lower School and Prep Registrar, who will be happy to help you.

Scholarships and Bursaries

Kingswood Prep School does not offer scholarships.

Bursaries are not available for children attending Kingswood Preparatory School unless there are very exceptional circumstances. Parents who wish to be considered for bursarial support should complete the financial statement form, which can be requested through the Headmaster.

The completed form should be submitted, together with any relevant supporting information, for confidential assessment by the Director of Admissions. As no awards can be made after an offer is made, we encourage families who feel they may be eligible for this exceptional support to discuss the matter with the Headmaster and/or the Director of Admissions well in advance of making a formal application for entry and before any assessment papers are taken.

Progression to the Senior School

Although the vast majority of children progress from the Prep school to the Senior school, this is not guaranteed. Prep school children wishing to attend Kingswood Senior School will sit the Year 7 assessments and a place will be offered based on the results of these assessments.
