Oxford Global MUN 2023
Over the weekend of November 4th and 5th, a group of 12 lower sixth students embarked on a remarkable journey to Oxford, participating in the prestigious Oxford Global 2023, the largest Model United Nations (MUN) conference in the UK. The conference unfolded within the historic walls of Oxford University, offering our students the unique opportunity to engage in debates within the very lecture rooms frequented by university students.
During this intensive three-day event, our students delved into a wide array of global issues, including refugee rights, greenwashing, surveillance technology, and the ramifications of conflict on global food supplies. To represent Tajikistan, Namibia, Pakistan, and Bulgaria, our delegates dedicated themselves to thorough preparation, including in-depth research on the subjects under discussion. For many of them, this marked their inaugural MUN experience, and they admirably rose to the challenge, exhibiting remarkable growth in confidence, including the delivery of speeches before audiences of over 200 individuals.
In addition to the core conference activities, our students had the privilege of attending a workshop led by the Oxford University admissions team, focusing on university applications and personal statements. They also had the opportunity to absorb insights from a keynote address delivered by Natalie Samarasinghe, CEO of Open Society and a distinguished advocate for UN civil rights. The trip further encompassed a captivating tour of Oxford, a visit to Blackwell's bookshop, delightful culinary experiences, and an enjoyable social gathering at the Natural History Museum.
Mr. Newbould extends his heartfelt appreciation to the students for their exemplary conduct and camaraderie throughout the trip. He also extends his gratitude to Mrs. Francis for her invaluable support during the journey.
