Kingswood Celebrate Outstanding Performances At Athletics Meet In Yeovil
On Saturday, the Kingswood Athletics team attended a meet at Yeovil Athletics Arena which was hosted by King’s Bruton.
The Girls’ Athletics team enjoyed their first competition of the season in sunny but chilly conditions.
The U16 team comprised Year 7, 9 and 10 pupils and did very well to record a number of wins and personal bests (PB) and all recorded podium positions.
Grace ran a tough 800m race and recorded a new PB, as did Evie as she won the 1500m, taking almost a minute off her PB and Tobina won the B string.
Edie won the Javelin whilst Ciara N won the B string.
In the 100m, Zoe won the B string and, together with Sterling, Grace and Ciara D, Kingswood was victorious in the 4x100m relay.
In the Senior competition, a small but select group of girls competed against some strong competition.
Lizzie won the 1500m and Miya won the B string Triple Jump.
Imogen had a great start to the season, breaking her own 200m in a time of 24.72s and also won the 100m in a time of 12.69s, just one second off her school record!
In the Boys competition, there were good wins for Noah S in the Senior 1500m, and Jack and Ollie enjoying a 1st and 2nd place finish respectively in the U16 100m.
Noah R won the U16 High Jump and Ollie also won the U16 Long Jump.
Fin won the U16 Triple Jump whilst Tom won the B string event.
Kingswood’s U16 4x100m relay team narrowly missed out on a win, but seeing as this was the first time the boys had competed, there is great potential for the future.
It was a similar story for the School’s 4x100m team who came second by the narrowest of margins.
Frankie had one of the performances of the day, leading the U16 800m until the final few meters, and he must be commended for his effort.
There were a number of pleasing performances throughout the day, but most importantly, it was fantastic to see so many young athletes taking part in their first meet.
Well done to all involved, we look forward to competing at Dauntsey’s this weekend at the opening of their brand new track.
