Documentary Film Club Meet For First Screening Event
On Wednesday 1st March, the Documentary Film Club hosted its first screening event.
The categories this year were 2019, small things and the great escape, and the participants had to create films of five minutes or less; employing the editing and filming skills from Mr Mansfield (Art)’s workshop as well as ideas from the films that have been viewed and discussed as part of the weekly clubs.
The quality of the films was excellent and they touched on a range of issues demonstrating Kingswood pupils’ concern and passion for topics which they believe need to be higher on the world’s agenda.
The first film was ‘A.I’ – a humorous, yet thought-provoking offering from Jamie and Emily.
This documentary was designed to increase awareness of the increasingly intrusive nature of A.I in our lives, with a particularly well-crafted voice over employed using A.I technology.
We were next thoroughly entertained by Jago, Charles and Layla documentary on the history of the Daleks from Dr. Who.
Not only did the film include a multitude of clips and images from 50 years’ worth of archive footage demonstrating thorough research, but the group learnt of Jago’s original composition of the soundtrack as well as extremely dedicated location sourcing from Charles to find the perfect telephone box.
The final film of the evening, also from Jamie and Emily, was on the importance of a balanced diet.
Created in full using only their phones, this film gave a sharp reminder to the audience as to how to balance a plate with thoughtful use of slow-motion and a recurring visual motif to represent the ideal plate.
