Year 9 Classical Civilisation Enjoy Trip To Chedworth Roman Villa
Last week, Year 9 Classical Civilisation pupils enjoyed a trip to Chedworth Roman Villa.
The group began their trip in a classroom where they learned about Roman life from the archaeological evidence, and held and identified genuine Roman artefacts.
Afterwards, the pupils learned about Roman medicine and their methods of healing the sick.
After lunch, the students explored the villa, looking at and learning about the bath house, a holy water shrine, a mosaic floor, a latrine, and a dining room, and genuine examples of underfloor heating.
The mosaics decorating the room showed how luxurious life was for the wealthy with a private spa complex of hot baths to clean your skin.
The archaeological evidence showed that they ate well too thanks to the Roman roads, the Romans managed to transport oysters from the sea to Chedworth in just a few days, along with a huge amphorae of wine and olive oil.
The group saw the beautiful water fountain which still gives life to the families dwelling in Chedworth today – the tadpoles, frogs and newts.
Mrs Dakin and Mrs Fountain have both thanked the staff who accompanied the trip, and the Year 9 pupils for joining in the activities so enthusiastically.
