Sixth Form PE And Sport Students Visit University Of Bath
On Wednesday, the Year 12 A Level PE and BTEC Sport pupils attended an afternoon of sports science at the University of Bath.
The programme began with a sport psychology workshop looking at how mental state drives or inhibits optimal performance.
From there, pupils were taken to one of the testing laboratories for a range of fitness tests.
Marcus opted to take part in the VO2 Max test which saw him running at increasing speed over a 20 minute period.
His blood lactate, oxygen consumption, carbon dioxide exhalation and his heart rate were monitored throughout using some very interesting technology.
Will was up next as his anaerobic output was measured using a Monark ergometer.
The trip was of huge value to the pupils as they got to experience a few of the exhilarating careers in the world of sports science.
The afternoon also afforded the pupils an opportunity to link the practical application of fitness testing to the theoretical content they have covered in class.
