Latin and Classical Civilisation Pupils Enjoy Insightful Roman Baths Visit
Last Friday, a group of 18 Latin and Classical Civilisation pupils visited the Roman Baths.
On the walk down, the group learned about some of the history of Kingswood, including the story of the famous mulberry tree outside the front of school.
The group also stopped at some of the world famous monuments of Bath’s Georgian architecture and learned about the history of their design.
After arriving at their lesson in the education centre, the pupils were taught about Roman inscriptions and the scenarios when they were most often used.
The students also learned about the Roman Baths and their purpose, which was social and religious, before being allowed to set their hands upon the artefacts that had been excavated.
The pupils had to question any preconceptions they may have had of the Ancient World as being somewhat primitive when they considered the evidence of an ancient yet advanced civilization, which surround us in their home town, with roads such as the Fosse Way and extensive thermal baths.
