U14As Finish Runners Up In West Regional Finals
In a busy week for the Hockey Club, the U14As were named Team of the Week after putting in an outstanding performance in the West Regional finals. Their first game was against Dean Close, and thanks to some outstanding saves and defensive work, the game finished goalless.
In the second game, Jim scored a brilliant goal to earn a 1-1 draw with King's Taunton which set up a must win game against Clayesmore in order to secure qualification. Will scored an opportunistic goal which proved to be the difference.
Qualification set up a semi-final against Taunton School who had beaten Kingswood 3-0 in the previous round. However, a smart finish from Wilson earned the U14As the victory and the team advanced to the final against Sherborne.
Sherborne went two goals ahead in the middle of the second half and the U14As had to dig deep. They continued to pass the ball confidently and managed to pull the game back in the last five minutes thanks to two goals from Rob.
The game went to a penalty shoot-out which Sherborne won. The team can be extremely proud of finishing in second place and the hockey that they played throughout the competition.
They now go on to face Uppingham tomorrow (Tuesday 20 March) for a place in the National Finals.
Elsewhere, a number of Kingswood's hockey teams ended the season unbeaten after a successful block fixture against Clifton College.
The U15As beat Wells Cathedral in midweek and also won their game against Clifton. The 1st XI won three matches last week and have qualified for the County Final which will take place this Thursday.
