U16As Remain Unbeaten This Season

Like the previous week the U16Bs got our rugby teams off to winning ways as they beat Monkton Combe in the away leg of their double header. It was a much changed team to the previous week with some key players absent but Ollie, in particular, stepped up to take responsibility. His Man of the match display included 4 tries.

Unfortunately, a blizzard on the Upper and some gale force winds led to the cancellation of a number of matches although the U13s did manage to play and there was a win for the ‘A’ team and some good performances across the age group from Vivaan, Harry, Ethan, Freddie, and Henry.

At the top end, injuries again made life difficult for the 1st XV, and the 2nds should be proud of their performance, scoring 3 good tries and defending bravely. Oliver Ellis, Jack Byrne and Edan Ledbury all deserve special mentions from these matches.

‘Team of the Week’ are the U16As. They remain unbeaten this season and faced one of their toughest tests last Saturday against a strong QEH team. Playing up a steep hill and losing a player to injury in the early stages, Kingswood were up against it and trailed 10-7 just before half-time. However, a try late in the first half gave them a lead that they never relinquished.

In the second half they dominated territory through aggressive defence and this enabled the team to start moving the ball quickly in attack and they scored some scintillating tries. The final score probably does not reflect how hard the boys had to fight for this win but with two games to go they will now aim to maintain this unbeaten run until the end of the season.
