Staff Member Sews Over 70 Wash Bags For Healthcare Workers
April 14th 2020
Mrs Page has spent her entire Easter weekend sewing and making kit wash bags for NHS workers and Careers. These wash bags will allow healthcare professionals to safely transport and wash their uniform without risking any spread of the coronavirus to their families:
"Myself and a friend I play hockey with, have spent our whole bank holiday break sewing, and making kit wash bags for NHS/Careers.
Our friend at hockey, who is a Community Nurse, put out a request if any of us could help to make these drawstring bags so that they can put their uniforms straight in to them, and in to their washing machines.
As I ran out of supplies of ribbon, cord etc., I put a request on our village Facebook page if anyone had any spare, and was inundated with supplies and additional material.
Over many hours I had wonderful messages of support, and goody bags of ribbon being left on my doorstep by people I didn’t previously know.
I spent two of the days out in the lovely sunshine, having de-camped all my equipment outside to still enjoy the weather.
Between us we have made over a hundred, I have personally done 74 so far, working 7AM until gone midnight Friday through Monday!
I made some mistakes too - like sewing all four sides of one bag up and wondering why I couldn’t find the opening the finish the top of it off!
One of my cats was a great “helper” throughout... NOT!
Some of the wash bags have already gone to Community Carers, Community Nurses, Dementia Care Home staff, GP’s at my local practice, and the remainder are going to my local hospital, Great Western in Swindon."
