Last weekend, 40 Year 11 students and six staff set off for two nights and three days walking on the Quantocks as part of a practice expedition for the Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

Starting in Enmore on Friday, the groups made their way over the hills towards Camp 1 in West Bagborough.

Navigation proved tricky, and it took some time for the groups’ map reading skills to warm up but, after dodging some heavy showers, all participants were in before dark and enjoyed a dry evening cooking within their groups.

On day two, all headed back up onto the hills towards Holford.

Despite a greater distance to travel, all groups did well to maintain good pace and make it to camp on time before the heavens opened.

Luckily, the rain held off the following morning, allowing them time to pack up their gear and head off with the finish line in sight.

All groups finished in good spirits and in good time, just as the rain set in once again.
