Girls Hockey Teams Enjoy Strong Start To Season
On Saturday, over 70 students from Westwood took part in extra training before starting their matches this year.
The Senior teams enjoyed fixtures against Cheltenham College winning five out of ten matches.
The 1st XI narrowly lost their match, having played well for large periods of the game, with Holly and Martha instrumental in the midfield exchanges.
Rosie scored two goals on her debut and Maya showed brilliant energy upfront as the 3rd XI enjoyed a 5-1 win, whilst the 4th XI highlighted the depth of the Senior teams with a 2-0 win.
The U15As were named Team of the Week, having turned around last year’s 0-8 loss to a 2-1 win this year.
The team put in a strong performance with goalkeeper Amelie making some important saves, and Tobina and Ciara defending well.
Hannah created a number of attacking opportunities and together with the athleticism of the team, the girls matched Cheltenham in attack.
Well done to each of the teams on an encouraging start to the season and well done to Holly and Martha for being named co-captains for this season.
