Over the summer, the Music department travelled to the Netherlands for their first concert tour.

The first day included a cultural morning spent in Utrecht, visiting the Speelklok Museum, where automated musical instruments filled the museum with wonderful sounds, including mechanical organs and pianos, and a self-playing string section.

Travelling to the west coast of the country, there was time for rest and relaxation on the vast beach in Noordwijk before sound checks began at The Buurtkerk.

At the conclusion of their first show, the tour group received a standing ovation from an appreciative audience.

The second performance soon followed in the town of Edam, with the Catholic church of St Nicholas providing a fantastic setting.

All of the groups performed with passion and energy and once again the finale of the concert was met with a standing ovation.

The final concert of the trip was of a very different variety, scheduled to take place in bandstand of Amsterdam’s huge Oosterpark.

Adverse weather threatened to dampen the performance but, as ever, the students battled on and performed one of their most memorable concerts to a small but hugely supportive audience of visiting parents and locals.

Throughout the tour, there was plenty of activities to make sure everyone had a chance to experience Dutch life: a visit to a windmill village a canal tour of Amsterdam and trip to the Rijksmuseum were enjoyed by all.
