Students Participate In Gold Duke Of Edinburgh Summer Expedition
During the first week of the summer holidays, 23 students undertook a Gold Duke of Edinburgh expedition in the Lake District.
With two of the groups using it as a practice and two groups using it as their Qualifying Expedition, all four groups enjoyed some varied weather and testing routes.
Having ascended nearly 700 metres by lunchtime of the first day, the students were rewarded with a view of England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike, and a couple of the groups were able to enjoy the beautiful Angle Tarn.
The students also enjoyed some fine weather in Patterdale and lakeside camping on Ullswater.
All groups successfully navigated to the finish point at Pooley Bridge before 3pm on the final day.
The two qualifying groups impressed the external assessor who wrote a glowing report on each of the participants and passed them all for this section of the award.
Congratulations to all the students who participated and thank you to Mr Smyth, Mr Davies, Miss Wilson, Mr Stuttard, Mr Edgell and Mr Allchorne.
