Girls’ And Boys’ Tennis Teams Record Impressive Results
The Tennis Club had a busy weekend of fixtures with the Senior Girls playing Monkton.
The Girls fielded six teams and Kingswood won the overall fixture 5-1.
It was great to see the 2nd and 3rd VI put into practice certain aspects that had been worked on during training sessions.
There was a great array of volley interceptions at the net and some well-placed groundstrokes.
Both the 1st and 2nd got team performances for their consistency and level of results.
Well done to the 15s and 14s who improved throughout the afternoon – in particular Olivia and Jojo who contributed to the U14B win 7-1.
In Boys’ Tennis, it was great to see some complete and relative newcomers take to the court for Westwood’s teams last week.
The stand out pairs were Archie and Sam, and Ryan and Will who showed the ability the build rallies and to play more aggressive shots when necessary.
The results of these timed tennis fixtures with sudden death deuces went in King Edward’s School’s favour, but useful lessons in the art of court craft have been learnt and everyone played with a smile.
The U15A team enjoyed some very competitive and close matches against KES, but eventually lost overall 5-4.
The 1st pairing of Xavier and Alex managed to win all three of their games.
The U15B team came up against some very strong opposition and overall lost 2-6.
The first pairing of Jonny and Bertie recorded an impressive 6-0 victory against KES’s second pair, whilst Henry and Cal also managed one victory.
In Saturday’s fixture against Wycliffe, Kingswood won at 1st team level for the first time in three years thanks to an impressive comeback from Joe and Jonny who were 5-1 to Wycliffe’s pair.
The 1st team remains undefeated this half term.
The 3rd VI played Wycliffe’s 2nd team with the pairings of Vladislav and Louis, and Xavier and Fergus both winning two of their three matches.
The U15 fixture underlined the strength in the depth of Boys’ tennis with two terrific wins for each pair.
