Senior Classical Civilisation

On Tuesday, Kingswood sponsored a lecture by the archaeologist Miranda Aldhouse-Green at The Bath Festival which took place at the Assembly Rooms.

Year 10 Classical Civilisation pupils went along to find out more about the rituals and sacred practices of Ancient Britain.

The group learned that the people of Ancient Britain regarded Art as a portal to the world of the Gods and it was therefore sacred.

They also saw an archaeologist’s reconstruction of the face of a man who was sacrificed to the Gods by the Druids and then buried in a peat bog around 2,000 years ago.

This fascinating talk made it clear that to become an archaeologist requires a very wide range of skills, as archaeologists have expertise in several branches of science, history and ancient languages.

How lucky they are to be able to dwell amidst the spiritual, mysterious and gruesome past of the island which the Romans named Britannia!
