U15As Named Team Of The Week In Strong Opening Week Of The Season
Kingswood’s Hockey teams had a strong start to the term as they got the better of the two block fixtures against Monkton Prep School and Cheltenham College.
Meanwhile, the Westwood teams won four out of their five matches against Monkton with Nabi and Tom both claiming Man of the Match awards for their respective teams in their first games for the School.
The 1st XI came back from a 2-0 deficit to win 5-3 against Cheltenham College and the U14s also started well with a 4-0 victory.
The U15As were named Team of the Week for their 2-1 victory which they secured without two key players who had been selected for the 1st XI.
Having lost to the same team 5-2 last season, they had the better of the fixture this time around.
A neatly taken goal from close range by Alfred gave Kingswood the lead and Kingswood’s forward line proved to be a constant thorn in the side of the opposition’s defence.
James worked tirelessly in midfield and Freddie impressed with his stick skills and distribution.
Ollie made some incisive runs on the right flank and into the opposition’s D.
In the second half, Cheltenham started positively and were rewarded with an equalizer from a penalty corner.
Despite the setback, Kingswood showed their resilience and desire to get back in front by going straight into attack mode and, after much pressure, they were awarded a penalty flick which Alfred converted confidently to secure the win.
In Monday’s School Assembly, the Hockey Club formally announced Fin as the Captain of Hockey for the forthcoming season.
