1st XI Team Finish Third In Cardiff Met Invitational Hockey Tournament
At the weekend, a very young 1st XI squad, including two Year 10 pupils, enjoyed their first competitive action of the year at the Cardiff Met Invitational Hockey tournament.
In between their matches, the boys got an insight into university life in a capital city and what they could expect in terms of sports provision at an institution such as this.
This included lectures on Sports Nutrition and Performance Psychology, practical sessions with the university’s Strength and Conditioning Coaches, sports massages and performance analysis.
On the pitch, the boys demonstrated real potential as Rob and Harvey gave an indication of what an exciting forward partnership they might become as they combined for the opening goal of the tournament against eventual finalists Kings Gloucester.
The 1st XI then went 2-0 up through Ed after some excellent work by Cameron but were left to rue missed chances as they conceded two late goals to finish with a draw.
A narrow 3-2 loss against tournament winners Stamford completed a very promising first day.
They followed this up on Sunday with a 3-2 win against Denstone and saved their best performance until last to secure a 4-1 victory against Kings’ Bruton to finish in a very respectable third place.
Fin led by example all weekend with his energy on and off the pitch and Tom made some excellent saves in all of the matches.
The group have been praised for their excellent company and being great ambassadors for the School throughout the weekend.
Meanwhile, almost 150 boys took part in pre-season hockey training last week as all teams prepared for the term ahead with various practice sessions on the Lower Astro.
