Students, Staff And Parents Attend Thought-Provoking Talk By Angus Forbes
Last Tuesday, the first joint venture between the Wesley Society and Science Society took place as Mr Angus Forbes addressed an audience of over 100 pupils, parents and staff in the Kingswood Chapel.
The evening started with a dinner, as a group of scholars dined with Mr Forbes in the Cusworth Room.
The pupils discussed with Mr Forbes his ideas of whether there should be global governance of the biosphere during dinner.
Mr Forbes’ talk was a combination of depressing, exciting, gripping, optimising and deeply thought-provoking as he made his arguments for the need for a global planet authority (GPA) to run the biosphere.
Mr Forbes produced some mind-blowing statistics to reinforce his arguments for a GPA, but was also the first to admit that getting the necessary number of votes, i.e. 1.5 billion, to see this through, was the biggest barrier.
The talk finished with Mr Forbes talking about how amazing the human race is and that absolutely anything is possible as has so often been proved in history.
He ended with a rousing rendition of Pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma, Mr Forbes’ strapline for his work, as a background to a montage of sportspeople doing incredible things.
