On Friday, 10 Kingswood Sixth Form students travelled to Oxford for the three day Oxford Global Model United Nations Conference.

Featuring delegations that had travelled from as far away as China and Canada, this conference was a wonderful opportunity to engage in high level debate with other students from across the world in the historic Oxford colleges.

The opening ceremony in the Sheldonian Theatre featured a talk by Sir Mark Lyle Grant, UN Ambassador for the UK and former national security advisor from 2009-2015.

There were a number of traditional MUN committees such as the Human Rights Council on which Megan served as Panama.

Also representing Panama was Jo on the Development Programme committee.

The EU Council saw Kate and Leo discuss some of the major issues facing the EU today.

The special political committee was attended by Davida as the delegate for Canada, whilst Poppy sat as a judge on the International Court of Justice.

Looking to the future were Jo and Uliana as rival Republican and Democrat senators facing a political crisis in the 2025 Presidential Election.

Students experienced a taste of Oxford University life with fine dining in the beautiful dining halls of New College and Baliol College.

Students also had the opportunity to ask questions to current undergraduate students, including what makes an Oxbridge worthy personal statement and what it is like to live and study in the one of the world’s greatest universities.

The delegation also visited Christ Church College where both the Founder of Methodism and Kingswood School John Wesley and his brother Charles Wesley received their undergraduate educations and John Wesley began his ecclesiastical career as Deacon of Christ Church Cathedral before being ordained.

Congratulations to Joanna and Hatty for winning nominations as outstanding delegates.
