Orienteers Wait To Find Out If They Will Represent England
Three pupils made the four hour journey north to compete in the selection race for the England’s orienteering team for the World Score Championships at the weekend.
Held at Tockholes, an area of mostly runnable beech woodland with deep valleys on steep slopes, the runners were tested physically and technically.
All ran excellently with Oliver completing the 5.7km course in 39.54 minutes taking third place and Jim, who finished a minute behind, coming fifth.
On Friday, it’ll be announced whether they have been selected for England.
Unfortunately for Jim, a fall early on the course meant he was unable to run on Sunday at the British Schools’ Championships held on the outskirts of Blackburn.
However, Oliver and Jamie both had great runs with Oliver taking the silver medal and Jamie finishing 7th which resulted in a 3rd place finish in the team competition.
