Year 13 Group Pass Gold Qualifying Expedition In Brecon Beacons
During the first four days of the half-term break, 19 students undertook a Gold Duke of Edinburgh expedition in the Brecon Beacons.
Two groups of Year 12 students used the expedition as a practice whilst one group of five Year 13 participants used it as a Qualifying Expedition.
All of the groups started in sunny weather at the northern edge of Talybont Reservoir on their first night.
On the second day, the groups walked an average route length of 20km before they experienced some frosty overnight temperatures on the second night.
Day three involved a long and demanding climb up the Black Mountain.
All groups did well to reach the 802m summit by lunchtime and eat with a stunning view before they enjoyed some afternoon sunshine during the decent.
On the final day, everybody made it to the finish point in good time and some of the groups were privileged enough to see some Red Kites in flight.
The Assessor was pleased with how the qualifying group had progressed throughout their expedition and was happy to pass the group.
