Orienteers Successful In Tricky Course At Ringwood
In orienteering, Kingswood’s runners shone amidst the torrential rain at Ringwood.
The orienteers had to negotiate a network of tricky paths forcing them to keep in close contact with the map.
The forest also proved to present a particularly tough test with plenty of tussocks and bracken impeding the runners' optimum route choice.
Oliver not only won his age class but was 1st overall, running 9.5km in just over 45 minutes and was the only person in the competition who managed to get all the controls.
There were some other excellent results from Kingswood pupils with Charlotte finishing just short of a podium place in 4th. Charlie (5th) and Wilfrid (6th) also had strong runs.
Katya confidently won the Year 8 class; a tremendous achievement having only orienteered for less than a year.
With another great run, Jim was not far behind taking 2nd place in Year 11.
In the team competitions the girls were very successful, winning the lower secondary class with scores from Katya, Sarafina, Praesha, Lexi and Charlotte.
