5K Lockdown Challenge
The return to school has concluded the Kingswood Lockdown 5K competition organised by Mr Musgrove. There were some fantastic times and stories of huge personal improvement.
In the Year 7 and 8 Girls competition, Hannah, Holly and Isabelle made it a clean sweep for Hamilton who subsequently won the House competition. In the Year 7 and 8 Boys competition, Charlie ran an exceptional 5K time of 18.07 to beat fellow Cusworth runner George and Posnett’s Samuel to ensure Cusworth won overall.
The Year 9 and 10 Boys race was fiercely contested among the Year 9s especially with Archie coming out a narrow winner. Fellow Upper contestant Tom was second whilst Archie led in a pack of Middle boys in 3rd. Indeed, Middle’s depth led them to take the House competition. It was a similar story in the Year 9 and 10 Girls race where Summerhill’s Emily took the individual win ahead of Fonthill’s Lauren before a further army of Fonthill runners swept up the team award.
In the Senior Boys race, Freddie produced a stand out time of 16.07 to take first place by a margin ahead of Jamie and Seb, who both ran under 19 minutes, with Middle again winning the House competition. The tightest race of them all, though, was the Senior Girls race with only 7 seconds separating the top three of Emily 1st, Grace 2nd and Evie 3rd. Once again, Fonthill’s numbers proved the difference as they took the team event.
Thank you very much to all who took part in this event and to all the students who kept coming back and posting faster and faster scores, detailing their improvement. Particular mention goes to Drew whose perseverance enabled him to knock 10 minutes off his time over 8 weeks.
With all that practice under everyone’s belt, House cross country at the end of term should be a contest to behold!
