On Thursday, Year 6 pupils welcomed a special Spanish visitor, Señora Montoya, who talked to them about how Christmas and New Year are celebrated in Spain.

The children learnt about the cultural tradition that welcomes the New Year called ‘The Twelve Grapes of Luck’ or ‘las doce uvas de la suerte’.

This consisted of eating a grape with each bell strike at midnight of December 31 while standing on one leg.

The pupils were given the opportunity to taste the traditional cake for El Día de los Reyes (Epiphany) called Roscón de Reyes.

Mrs Turner and the children thanked Señora Montoya for bringing these cultural differences to life for the children.
