Year 9 Drama Pupils Continue Collaboration With Drama Students From Clarendon
Some of Kingswood’s Core Year 9 Drama pupils are currently working on a collaborative verbatim project with pupils from Clarendon School in Trowbridge.
Following the launch day at Clarendon in October, last Wednesday saw the students come to Kingswood to continue their work on the venture.
The day began with a workshop led by the Paper Birds Theatre Company in which the pupils learnt how the theatre company create physical movement to accompany the verbatim in their show ‘Thirsty’.
The rest of the day was spent working together to brainstorm ideas and themes for their own piece of theatre.
After much deliberation, a final idea was settled on and the new company named themselves ‘The Clarenwood Drama Academy’.
Their original piece of theatre, entitled ‘Outloud’, will be performed in the Kingswood Theatre in January.
The remaining Year 9 and 10 Drama pupils also participated in the same workshop with the Paper Birds later in the day before all watching the performance in the evening.
‘Thirsty’ tackled the issue of binge drinking in young women.
The audience are left considering their own opinion on the issue, having been presented with true stories – some funny and some harrowing.
The performance has led to some interesting and thought provoking debate in Drama classes and all the students pick up some useful ideas for their own devising work.
