Year 12 Pupils Participate In Silver Qualifying & Gold Practice DofE Expedition
26 Year 12 pupils and five members of staff were able to embark on a three day expedition on the Marlborough Downs over the last weekend of the Easter holidays from the 16 – 18 April. The expedition was able to serve as Gold Practice as well as a Silver Qualifying. There were some restrictions in place that meant the participants could not camp, however, the groups were able to plan a continuous journey taking in the Cherwell monument, the stone circle at Avebury, as well as a number of Wiltshire’s white horses.
The expedition was particularly poignant as it coincided with the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral. This was not lost on those involved and everyone was able to observe the national silence at 3pm and some students and Mr Davies (Director of Co-Curricular) were also able to share their experiences of the award with BBC Points West live on the Friday evening as part of a commemorative piece about the Duke’s legacy.
All of the participants engaged very positively with the expedition and enjoyed the fine, sunny weather.
Well done to all of those involved and thank you to all the staff who supported the expedition.
