Discussing American Politics With British BBC Journalist Justin Webb
On Wednesday evening, we had the pleasure of welcoming British journalist Justin Oliver Webb to Kingswood for an online Question and Answer session.
In the wake of a change of power in the one of the world’s superpowers, it was eye-opening to have the former BBC North America Editor share his thoughts on American politics with our pupils and staff members.
From Trump to the recent inauguration, the influence of social media and journalism on elections and a changing Republican party, the evening covered a vast array of topics and left us imagining what the future of US politics would look like under the new administration and beyond.
Mr Webb was happy to share his personal views and experience as a journalist in the US and engaged in enthusiastic political conversation with Mr Woodgate, Head of Sixth Form and former Head of History and Politics, who also happens to be an American politics fanatic.
Thanks to Mr Webb for giving up his time, and to Mr Allchorne for taking the initiative and organising such an interesting and insightful evening.
“It was a fascinating insight into recent American politics. Justin Webb’s experience working as a journalist for several years in the US gave an invaluable perspective to recent political events and the American people. After explaining how close the USA came to a constitutional crisis, he ended with a note of optimism for its future.” – Louis, Year 11
