An antiviral literary festival, bringing authors and readers together online for seven days of stories and conversation - Monday 27 April to Sunday 3 May 2020

Kingswood’s Senior School Librarian, Kirsty Sutherland talks about a brand new series of literary events which take place over the next seven days. These virtual events are open to all and whilst the events are free, donations can be made to Mind, the mental health charity.

“In response to the cancellation of so many literary events, author Georgie Codd and friends founded BookBound, a ‘not-for-profit voluntary collective connecting writers from all walks of life’.

Over the next seven days, the collective is hosting an online ‘anti-viral’ literary festival on YouTube. Unlike some of the more well-known festivals, there is no charge to attend, meaning events are accessible to anyone with an internet connection!

The events comprise readings and discussion panels, featuring some incredible writers, journalists, podcasters and even comedians. The variety of content means there really is something for everyone, whether it’s Jasbinder Bilan reading from her Costa Children’s Book Award-winning Asha and the Spirit Bird, or Max Porter, winner of the International Dylan Thomas Prize for Grief is the Thing with Feathers, talking about the boundaries between poetry and prose.

In lieu of ticket fees, the collective is asking for donations to mental health charity Mind – recognising that isolation can have a detrimental effect on our mental health and wellbeing and that for many people, Mind is a lifeline.

This is a great opportunity to hear from some of the best writers in the UK today, while supporting a timely and important cause.”
