On Thursday evening, the Prep School held a Climate Change Summit for parents and classmates in the Association Hall.

The children welcomed marine biologist Stephanie Lavelle from the Sea Sanctuaries Trust to talk about her conservation projects around the world.

The pupils spoke eloquently about the environmental issues which are important to them and addressed the audience with some interesting facts about how we can save the planet:

  • “Did you know that if we switch to organic foods we could be healthier and it would be better for the environment as they don’t use any chemicals to grow them!”
  • “Did you know that if we eat more meat-free meals (i.e. at least once a week) we could reduce the methane production around the world.”
  • “If we continue to produce power from low cost solar wind and battery technologies there will be enough energy to halve harmful emissions from electricity by 2030!”
  • “Did you know that if you bring a refill bottle with you everywhere you go you will avoid lots of single use plastic bottles – we do this on all KPS school trips now!”
  • “If we use a green energy supplier we could reduce the amount of energy we consume! Talk to your parents about this children!”
  • “Did you know that the climate change and global warming could introduce more foods such as olives and vines into England. Vines give us grapes which are good for wine!”
  • “Did you know that electric vehicle growth has the potential to reach 90% of the market share by 2030! What kind of car do you have? Could you switch?”
  • “When buying everyday products, make sure to buy large containers because it reduces the amount of plastic you use. You can even re-use old containers as well!”
