Year 12 Explore Coastal Systems In Porlock Bay And Minehead
Last week the Year 12 Geographers travelled to Porlock and Minehead to begin their A-Level field work studies.
Under sunny skies the group reached Porlock bay, a fine example of a coastal system, and after an excellent briefing by Mr Smyth, the students started recording different aspects of the beach profile and its morphology.
They gradually worked their way across the bay from West to East and in doing so recorded how the beach changed, culminating in the ever popular stone throwing contest.
After a hearty evening meal, pupils returned to the classroom for an hour of reviewing the day’s work and preparing for the next.
On the second day, the students travelled to Minehead to carry out a mini investigative project evaluating the coastal defences before returning to school to share their outcomes and conclusions.
