Prep Trips and Visits

On Friday 23rd November, Year 1 welcomed Yvonne Cox from ‘Hedgehog Rescue’ who came to teach the children about the hedgehogs living in their gardens at home.

The pupils discovered many intriguing facts about what hedgehogs eat, why they hibernate and how their spines grow.

The talk highlighted potential dangers which pose a threat to hedgehogs in our gardens.

As the session progressed, the children came up with a list of considerate ideas to help protect hedgehogs; these included crushing down empty tin cans, tying up empty crisp packets and making sure that the fences in our gardens have a gap for a hedgehog to squeeze through.

The children were then given the opportunity to meet Horatio, a tiny hedgehog that ‘Hedgehog Rescue’ had saved from some netting in a playground.
