Design and Technology Trips and Visits

On Monday 22 November Year 10 and Year 12 Design and Technology students travelled to London to visit the Design Museum.

The Year 10 students immediately entered a design workshop hosted by a resident designer, analysing the form of a variety of designer chairs. Students then produced their own designs based upon set briefs.

At the same time, the Year 12 students were able to view a Terence Conran exhibition as well as the permanent collection in the wonderful new home of the Design Museum. With everything from a full size replica of a strut brace from the Pompidou Centre and the front end of a tube train to teapots, electric guitars and trainers the exhibition was certainly inspirational.

After lunch the Year 10 students viewed the exhibition, while the Year 12s undertook a lighting workshop. Again hosted by a resident designer, students analysed a variety of lights before designing their own. The museum staff commented on how well the students presented themselves throughout the day and the resident designer was very impressed with the designs presented to him from the two groups.

This highly successful trip proved both educational and enjoyable and has provided inspiration for our examination classes with the best design work as students get close to starting their own coursework projects.

A big thank you to the students for making this such an enjoyable trip and to Mr East and Miss Sutherland for their support on the day.
