Students Undertake Duke Of Edinburgh Expedition In The Lake District
During the first week of the summer holidays, 19 students undertook a Gold Duke of Edinburgh expedition in the Lake District, whilst one group used it as practice and two groups used it as their Qualifying Expedition.
All three groups enjoyed some very hot weather and varied but testing routes. During the first day, groups ascended nearly 700m by lunchtime, but they were rewarded with a cooling dip in the Angle Tarn.
On the second day, many of the groups were able to enjoy views of the entire Lake District and beyond from the top of High Raise.
On the third day, the groups enjoyed the delights of Patterdale and some lakeside campaign on Ullswater. All groups had a straight forward final day and were able to navigate to the finish point at Pooley Bridge before 3pm.
The two qualifying groups impressed the external assessor who wrote a glowing report on each of the participants and passed them all for this section of the award.
