Year 5 Enjoy Visit From Local Artist Helen Stanfield
On Friday 26 April, pupils from Year 5 were lucky enough to welcome local artist Helen Stanfield into their art lessons.
The children’s project for the summer term is based on Helen’s award-winning piece entitled ‘Walk the Lines - Bath’ and they had a fantastic opportunity to learn about her artistic process.
The pupils were shown sketchbooks of different sizes and Helen spoke about how she has submitted work for exhibitions, as well as working with other local artists and what it is like to have her own studio.
Helen’s art ranges from stunning pencil and pen drawings to silk and oil paintings.
Year 5 gave her some very thoughtful questions, asking about where her inspiration comes from, how long a piece of art takes and which artists from history she likes.
It was quite a shock for the children to hear that some of her pieces can take over four months to complete.
The pupils will be experimenting with inks and monoprinting to produce their own patterned maps of Bath this term and Helen will be returning to catch up with the results.
You can find details of Helen’s work on her website www.helenstanfield.co.uk and see her work displayed in the Newbridge Arts Trail on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 May in the Weston Methodist Church Hall.
