Athletics Season Begins With Lutra Shield And Training At Kingswood
This weekend, the athletics season began with a bang, of the starters fun, at the Yeovil Athletics Arena.
The Lutra Shield is a prestigious boys U18 only event, competed for by some of the top schools in the South West.
Kingswood, with a predominately young team, performed admirably in the near gale force winds.
It was encouraging to see so many new faces join the team, and we look forward to them competing throughout the season.
There were some pleasing results, with Noah winning his string of the 800m event and coming 3rd in his string of the 1500m.
Although Toby and Gustav jumped further in training during the week, both boys posted decent distances in the long jump and triple jump respectively.
Ciaran and Kit made it through to the latter rounds of the high jump, and Harry ran a personal best in the 200m.
Back at Kingswood’s athletics track, Ms Paver had 18 athletes, ranging from Years 7-13, training in preparation for the meets ahead.
With this session being an optional training opportunity in less than desirable weather conditions, these athletes must be commended for their commitment to getting better.
The Athletics Club has also named Lizzie as their Girls’ Captain , with Imogen and Ellie sharing the Vice-Captain role.
Nick has been named as the Boys’ Captain and Matt taking the role of Vice-Captain.
